Well, it’s hard to believe that another school year wraps up for the summer.  I am going to miss the noise around the parish during the school days and of course for Friday school Masses.  Now that the school year is over, our Friday morning Mass will move to 8am until the start of school in the fall.  Many thanks to our teachers and staff and a well-deserved break for them and our students!

Two quick reminders: Paul Keenan will be leading a teaching series June 11th/12th through July 9th/10th.  It will follow our usual schedule of Wednesday nights at Sacred Heart at 6pm and Thursday mornings at St. Mary on the Lake at 10am.

Secondly, that I will be gone the weekend of June 14th/15th for my brother Randy’s Ordination.  The Ordination Mass for the seven men to be ordained priests will be Saturday, June 14th at St. Thomas Aquinas in East Lansing at 10:30am.  I am grateful for Fr. Kirwin from Unbound covering our Masses for me that weekend.  He will have materials available for Unbound available after Mass if you interested in learning more.

40 Hour Intercessory Adoration at Sacred Heart & St. Mary on the Lake

Purpose: This 40-hour Intercessory Adoration Campaign for our diocese aims to unify all the parishes of the Diocese of Lansing in the Missional phase of the Eucharistic Congress.  Along with bringing about more Eucharistic devotion in our parishes it will also provide an opportunity for powerful intercession for deeper conversion (or first-time conversion) for our loved ones, fellow parishioners, fallen away, and unchurched.  It concludes with the all-Diocesan Mass at Lugnuts Stadium followed by a Eucharistic procession arriving at St. Mary Cathedral where participants are able to receive the Jubilee Year Plenary Indulgence.

What is the point of Eucharistic Adoration?  A few thoughts from Mother Teresa:

“A Holy Hour of Adoration helps bring everlasting peace to your soul and in your family.  It brings us personal peace and strength.  It brings us a greater love for Jesus, for each other, and for the poor.  Every holy hour deepens our union with Him and bears much fruit.

Nowhere on earth are we more welcomed or loved than by Jesus in the Eucharist.  When you look at the crucifix, you understand how much Jesus loved you.  When you look at the Sacred Host you understand how much Jesus loves you now. …

When the sisters are exhausted, up to their eyes in work, when all seems to go awry, they spend an hour in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.  This practice has never failed to bear fruit: they experience peace and strength.

I know I would not be able to work one week if it were not for that continual force coming from Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament (during my Holy Hour of Adoration).  To be alone with Jesus in Adoration and in intimate union with Him is the Greatest Gift of Love – the tender love of Our Father in Heaven.

If you really want to grow in love, come back to the Eucharist, come back to that Adoration.  …Each one of us is a coworker of Christ – we must labor hard to carry Him to the hearts where He has not yet been known and loved…But, unless we have Jesus, we cannot give Him; that is why we need the Eucharist.  Spend as much time as possible in front of the Blessed Sacrament and He will fill you with His strength and His power.”  https://airmaria.com/2017/09/05/st-teresa-of-calcutta-a-reflection-on-eucharistic-adoration/

God Bless,

Fr. Todd
