Dear Sacred Heart & St. Mary on the Lake,
Welcome to June, the month of the Sacred Heart! I want to go over the events of June.
June 5-6th: St. Mary on the Lake Rummage Sale. Drop offs accepted beginning this Sunday, June 1st after Mass until 1:00pm, Monday & Tuesday 8:00am-4:00pm and Wednesday 8:00am until NOON only. It is always amazing the number of things that are brought for that sale and we have a great team that runs it.
June 14-15th: I will be gone for my brother’s ordination. Our weekend Masses will be covered by Fr. John Kirwin. Fr. Kirwin preaches for Unbound – a ministry that unites people with children in impoverished situations around the world. I want to be clear that this is not our annual summer mission appeal and there will not be a second collection. Fr. Kirwin will talk about Unbound and there will be an opportunity after Mass to learn more about sponsoring a child if you are interested. (I have been sponsoring a child through Unbound for many years after meeting them early in my priesthood.)
The week of June 15th we will be participating in times of Adoration in conjunction with parishes throughout our Deanery and Diocese leading up to the feast of Corpus Christi. We will have Adoration at Sacred Heart on June 16th from 8:30am-10:00pm https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040949AAA92DA3FC1-56791436-40hour and at St. Mary on the Lake on June 19th from 8:00am-7:00pm https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040949AAA92DA3FC1-56769467-40hours. You may sign up through signup genius on the links above or there will be signups located at the front of each Parish.
Saturday, June 21st there will be a Mass at 10am at Jackson Field in Lansing followed by a Eucharistic Procession to the Cathedral. The Cathedral is a pilgrimage site for the Jubilee year so this will also be a great way to participate in the Jubilee year. If you are able to make it, it will be a powerful experience.
Sunday, June 22nd for the feast of Corpus Christi, weather permitting, we will have a Eucharistic Procession following the 11am Mass at Sacred Heart.
June 22nd begins our Totus Tuus week. There may still be a few signups available for the 1-6 program if you haven’t done so yet but they are going fast. Daily Mass is an integral part of Totus Tuus so on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of that week our daily Mass at Sacred Heart will be moved from 8am to 11:15am. We will have 11:15am Mass on Tuesday and Thursday as well. We will still have our Tuesday evening Adoration and Mass. Everyone is welcome to come to those Masses.
June 27th is the feast of the Sacred Heart. The Knights of Columbus have a traveling icon of the Sacred Heart that we were able to secure for our parish for our feast day. We will have a special Holy Hour that evening at Sacred Heart at 6pm. It will include Adoration, special prayers, and the opportunity for Confession.
June 28-29th: We are allowed to celebrate the Mass of the Sacred Heart in place of our Sunday Masses this weekend. Three newly ordained priests will be joining us for Masses of Thanksgiving – Fr. Jack Jobst at the 4:30pm, Fr. Daniel LaCroix at the 8am, and Fr. Randy Koenigsknecht at the 11am. For our feast day, and for the newly ordained, we will have a light reception in the basement following each Mass. Thank you to Dan and Alyssa Hartley for lending us your Soft Serve Machine again for our feast day celebration. There is a tradition of receiving a first blessing from a newly ordained priest so there will be the opportunity to receive that blessing from them at the reception.
It is going to be a great month!
God Bless,
Fr. Todd
