This is an open invitation to attend an informational meeting for the new Hudson Free Store Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church, 420 W Main St. Hudson, Michigan. Please arrive at 7 PM to hear a presentation by Brenda Walters from Concord who has operated a free store in Concord for the last nine years.
The Hudson Free Store opened its doors at 307 W. Main Street last month on December 16th. It was open three hours on four different days and handed out over 1,000 items. This “store” has been the dream of Kay Bigelow, of Lime Lake, for the last several years. Kay visited free stores around the state and discovered there is an abundance of good quality used clothing available for dissemination to needy individuals. The Concord Free Store in Concord, Michigan started giving Kay their surplus items two years ago which led to a Clothing Giveaway several times a year at the First United Methodist Church. Their building doesn’t have the space to set up, arrange and store the clothing so Kay has been searching for a suitable building ever since.
This meeting is to describe the Free Store’s goals and objectives so the community can get involved and have an investment in this mission. There are many ways to help out from building storage shelves, sorting clothes, manning the store and even fulfilling their wish list that includes a washer and dryer. At this time they are open Monday and Thursday 3 PM to 6 PM and Saturdays from 9 till noon.
An initial grant from Thrivant Financials “Live Generously” program sponsored the opening and paid for ads in the Post Gazette .
